As part Latin Elephant’s art public programme, Inhabiting Spaces, the charity invited Latin American Artists to submit their ideas for socially engaged projects with South London Gallery and Gasworks. This opportunity for two Latin American artists based in the UK aims at enabling practitioners at different stages of their career to undertake and produce a socially engaged project with Latin Elephant and partner organisations.

These two opportunities were supported by an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grants and intended to create artistic exchange and experimentation with a focus on the following topics: the politics of space; re-imagining urban space; how to inhabit redeveloped areas; the relationship between place and identity; a sense of belonging; and related topics. Proposals must take as a case and starting point the area of Elephant and Castle, in London.

Latin Elephant was particularly interested in supporting art practices that were process and research based, aiming to create opportunities for artists to research and encourage interaction, participation, and community participation.

Inés Cardó and the duo formed by Blkmoodyboi and The Bonita Chola were selected amongst 36 applicants to develop their proposal and deliver a participatory community workshop.
