URGENT UPDATE FROM AYLESHAM COMMUNITY ACTION:
The Aylesham Centre Planning Committee is taking place on Tuesday July 15 at 6:30pm at Southwark Council’s office (160 Tooley St, London SE1 2QH). There will be room for the public in the committee room. We need to show people care about what happens to Peckham so please come along! Follow Aylesham Community Action (linktree; IG; FB), Peckham Vision [IG; FB] and SHAPE (Southwark Housing and Planning Emergency) [IG; FB] for more information.
POP has submitted a formal objection to Berkeley Homes’s proposed redevelopment of the Aylesham Centre.
Developer Berkeley Homes is planning a ‘redevelopment’ (demolition) of the Ayelsham Centre in Peckham, with 16 new buildings reaching 20 storeys and featuring 867 homes, 88% of which will be unaffordable. Berkeley Homes has already submitted an appeal to the planning inspectorate, before the application could go to Southwark Council’s planning committee. Southwark is still planning to meet about the application. You can read the council’s statement here.
Protect our Places objected to the application in solidarity with Peckham and our Southwark-based groups, and building from our collective knowledge and lived experience. You can read our objection in the attached document.
