🐘🏰 E&C Regeneration: Lessons Learned

Feb 8, 2021 | News and Events, Publications

After 55 years, Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre closed its doors for the final time on 24 September 2020. As a key player heavily involved in the planning process since its early days, Latin Elephant has now put together a report to provide some insights and lessons learned into the processes of advocating for fair regeneration processes.

We are sharing our experiences working directly with groups impacted by a form of regeneration that excludes BAME and other economically disadvantaged groups in processes of urban change, as we are convinced the role that research, community activism and protest have to play in our search for social and spatial justice around gentrification in London.

How did the ‘re-generation’ process unfold? How was the local community involved in developers’ and the Council’s plans? What did we learn and what has been achieved from this collaborative efforts with traders and local groups?
